John Welsh grew up in South Bend, Indiana where he attended college at the University of Notre Dame (2005). He holds a PhD in Romance Languages and Literatures from Harvard University (2017) as well as Masters degrees in Italian from Harvard (2011) and the University of Virginia (2007). Before joining the faculty at Wake Forest, John held full-time teaching appointments at High Point University and Notre Dame, where he served as teacher/director of the Italian Theater Workshop. At Wake Forest, John teaches beginning and intermediate Italian language courses and is the founder of the Business Italian program. He also organizes a yearly Italian music night with live student performances. Scholarly interests include online pedagogy, language for special purposes, and arts-enhanced foreign language instruction. A former law student, education researcher, and sports page editor, John’s non-teaching interests include listening to podcasts, playing sports video games, singing Tom Waits songs, and cuddling with his baby daughter and miniature dachshund.
